Linkin Park’s Chester Bennington dead in apparent suicide

July 20, 2017

Linkin Park lead singer Chester Bennington has been found dead in his home near Los Angeles aged 41. This news has come as a shock because it was just couple of hours before a friend share with me a YouTube link to the band latest video on what would likely be their last music video with him. The song is called ‘Talking to Myself’, a track from their new album, One More Light. When i listened to the lyrics for ‘Talking to Myself,’ there’s plenty of possibilities suggest that he may have been indicating something to himself: “You keep running like the sky is falling I can whisper, I can yell But I know, yeah I know, yeah I know I’m just talking to myself.”Bennington case has reminded me of why life has become tasteless for so many people around the world. When it comes to suicide, there are those who do it for themselves and sometimes for others, and those who do it against others. The rock musician’s suicide experiences are revelatory of how they have resisted their personal objectives by such defiance. While browsing on twitter what most people are tweeting, I have noted that Bennington has died on what would have been the 53rd birthday of close friend and fellow singer Chris Cornel who also committed suicide earlier this year. Not sure whether the Cornel death could have influenced Bennington actions but its very sad day for all of us who love alternative rock music. Bennington famously wrote on Instagram after Cornell death, “Your voice was joy and pain, anger and forgiveness, love and heartache all wrapped up into one. I suppose that’s what we all are.”I can’t imagine a world without you in it. I pray you find peace in the next life.” That itself shows how close they were. Searching for factors involved in Bennington suicide is, assuredly, less of a speculation. For one thing, there is a lot more online speculations about his actions but with time facts will come out. Bennington’s death came seven days before Linkin Park was due to start the US leg of its tenth headline tour including a show at New York’s Citi Field with Blink 182 slated for next week.

Linkin Park’s seventh album, One More Light, released in May has been a great listen for your blogger as it has fully embraced what experts call moody pop. According to data available, the Grammy Award-winning group has sold more than 70 million albums worldwide, including 10 million copies of 2000 debut Hybrid Theory, and 4 million of 2003’s multiplatinum Meteora. The group has also sold millions with remix album Reanimation and the mash-up record with Jay-Z, Collision Course. The group won Grammys for best hard rock performance in 2001 for Crawling and best rap collaboration for Encore twelve years ago. Bennington struggled with drug and alcohol addiction at various times during his life and we all know drugs eventually make their way into the brain via the bloodstream. Once there, they affect how messages are sent through the brain and thats why some people may not have second thoughts on committing suicide. Bennington is survived by his second wife Talinda and his six childrenUS media is currently reporting that authorities are investigating Bennington’s death as an apparent suicide at Palos Verdes Estates, a small city near Los Angeles. Band co-founder and producer Mike Shinoda has just written on Twitter how he was “shocked and heartbroken”. Warner Brothers chief executive and chairman Cameron Stang has also released a statement: “Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul. Gabby Sidibe has also tweeted saying “RIP Chester Bennington. This feels like a kick in the chest. My December has pulled me through many times. Depression is a real monster.” Jimmy Kimmel wrote; “Chester was one of the kindest men I’ve had on my show. My heart breaks for his family and friends. He will be missed terribly.”Bennington was born in Phoenix and he joined Linkin Park 19 years ago. He was signed up to front to the Hybrid Theory, which later changed its name to Linkin Park. The singer and the band’s co-founder, Mike Shinoda, were said to be close friends.
