Kriss Kross rapper Chris Kelly dies aged 34
I was heartbroken when I woke up this morning and tuned to CNN only to find them reporting that Chris “Mac Daddy” Kelly, one half of the 1990s rap duo Kris Kross, has died at an Atlanta hospital at the age of 34.The channel was quoting report from Fulton County Medical Examiner’s spokesman. The report added that Dumonder Dawson, an investigator for the medical examiner’s office, said Kelly died on Wednesday evening Atlanta time but declined to discuss the cause of the rapper’s death. Kelly had been found unresponsive at his home and that an autopsy had been scheduled for Thursday morning American time.
Atlanta native Chris Kelly and Chris Smith made up the group Kris Kross.I was a teenager when Kelly, known as Mac Daddy performed alongside Chris Smith, known as Daddy Mac, in the early and mid 1990s. I personally best remember them for the song Jump from their 1992 debut album, Totally Krossed Out. It was their dress code mainly wearing their clothes backwards that made them a hit with my generation of late 80s and early 90s. For the last few hours, Twitter has become alive with condolences from celebrities and friends alike with hashtags #RIPChrisKelly and #Kriss Kross trending worldwide. Those who love Rap music like I do, will recall Kriss Kross were part of Michael Jackson’s famous Dangerous world tour and their performance remains one the best. I will never forget them for their unique fashion style.
