Contador Harrison listening to rock since childhood has shaped his personal consciousness over the years. There is no doubt spirit found expression in the way I deal with people to this date. When I first arrived in my late Uncle’s house in Hobart the Australian summer of 1996 to conduct research on rock music collection he had, I expected to find plenty of the most globally known rock bands at the time and of cause Aussie rock bands that had attracted followings among my youth as a result of our exposure to these acts through the mainstream commercial mass media primarily national and regional newspapers, radio and music channels like MTV. I did, in fact, find in his collection that such mainstream groups were just a quarter of rock music bands i knew at the time and I was unprepared for what else I found. I had assumed that the rock music diets of my uncle generation would be limited to groups promoted by the global music industry like Black Sabbath, ACDC, KISS, The Queen, Motorhead, Metallica etc. Instead, I discovered an extensive decades old network of urban rock dedicated to a genre not known in the mainstream. His collection provided an outlet like no other for esoteric rock music from around the world available in music cassettes and vinyl ranging from live concerts rock events that featured dozens of bands pounding out tunes. In most of his collection there rock events held on university campuses, nightclubs, soccer fields under the scorching sun that attracted thousands of fans.Clearly what I had found in his collection could not be explained simply as a consequence of someone addicted to rock music, to him, rock was a tribe, a religion and a friend. That, is what made your blogger a hardcore hard rock fan, but recently, I’ve been wondering whether the good old days are gone. As a youngster, I was attracted to underground rock music styles and its what motivated me to set up one of the most diverse rock music collection any hardcore rock fan could have. I began to explore the underground music movement in which at the time played a crucial role in shaping my views of the society.

As decades old rock fan, I’ve over the years come across different styles, artists and bands that have created and recreated plenty of unique music in the way they play, perform, dress or behave. I do also love their scandals which aren’t violent, they are part of rock culture after all. My uncle’s collection introduced me to rock bands that were not only an irritant to our parents but were radical in their lyrics and rubbed the establishment the wrong way. Who can forget Sex Pistols God Save the Queen? Some of the bands and rockers who I got to know through my uncle like Bad Religion, 7 Seconds, Chuck Berry, Rolling Stones, Minutemen, Suicidal Tendencies, Jimi Hendrix, Doors, Germs, Led Zeppelin, The Who, Misfits, Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, David Bowie, Sick of it All, Bruce Springsteen, Circle Jerks, Refused, Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, Clash, Ramones, New York Dolls, Kiss, REM among many others remain fresh in my mind whenever i listen to their songs. Add the likes of Husker Do, Nirvana, My Chemical Romance, Judas Priest, Nick Cave, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Brains, Fugazi, Dead Kennedy’s, Asking Alexandria etc and you get an idea why love for rock in Contador Harrison’s soul will never die. From those who detest rock music, it is a genre that appear to exemplify the dark side of human beings. Hardcore rock, which evolved out of punk rock in USA in the 1980s, the same decade when your blogger was born, I categorize it either as old school and new school.I can’t even imagine how life would be without Pink Floyd explicit political lyrics or Alice Cooper’s love lyrics. That, however doesn’t stop me from listening to genres like alternative or indie. Each of rock genres and sub-genres attracts socially differentiated audiences but for me rock is rock. But when it comes to top choices, death metal, while black metal are at the top and with over 30 Terabytes of rock collecting and growing, the appetite is unstoppable.
