Legendary WWE and WWF wrestler Chyna has died aged 45.The first time i watched her fight was in 1999 and from that day I fell in love with her prowess. The hulking female athlete was billed as the “ninth wonder of the world” during her time in Vince McMahon’s colourful wrestling league, enjoying her prime at the peak of the then-WWF’s popularity.Her management posted a statement on her Facebook account confirming her death.“It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero,” the message said.“She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.””It is with deep sadness to inform you today that we lost a true icon, a real life superhero,” a statement on her Facebook reads. “Joanie Laurer aka Chyna, the 9th wonder of the world has passed away. She will live forever in the memories of her millions of fans and all of us that loved her.” US media reported Laurer’s manager found her at her home in Redondo Beach, California, but the exact cause of death is unknown at this stage. It has also been reported the 45-year-old had been taking medication to help with anxiety and sleep deprivation, and police officers at the scene were investigating the possibility of a drug overdose.She became a wrestling star and debuted in the WWE in 1997, and later wrestled in the WWF. She choked out Marlena in her first involvement when the iconic Triple H was doing battle with Goldust.She originally made a name for herself as Triple H’s bodyguard, using her trademark move, a low blow to the groin to help him win bouts.Along with Triple H and others, including Shawn Michaels and Rick Rude, Chyna was one of the original members of D-Generation X, the famous tag team that became known for the “crotch chop” celebration performed by its quartet.

Chyna turned on D-Generation X when she attacked Triple H in early 1999 and joined The Corporation. He later joined her there before the duo became part of Shane McMahon’s Corporate Ministry.According to ratings record, Chyna was one of the biggest attractions for the wrestling promotion, even going on to fight in singles matches against the men and won the WWF Intercontinental Championship when she defeated Jeff Jarrett in October 1999 at No Mercy, becoming the only woman to have claimed that belt. Chyna last fight was a victory against Lita at Judgment Day in 2001.Such was her success and popularity, she was promoted as the “Ninth Wonder of the World”.Chyna fame on the wrestling stage helped her branch out into other areas once her career finished and posed nude for Playboy in 2000 and appeared on reality TV program The Surreal Life more than a decade ago, then went into the porn industry and released six films.In 2010, Chyna was discovered unconscious in a California hotel room, apparently having overdosed on a cocktail of prescription drugs and alcohol.Her bio page shows she was born Joan Marie Laurer on December 27, 1970 in Rochester, New York and dedicated her life to becoming a successful entertainer, working as a phone sex worker, cocktail waitress on her way to the WWE stage. Chyna’s beginnings in Rochester were rough. According to her website, her childhood home was plagued by alcoholism and domestic abuse, leading her to seek solace in shaping her body.
